Hello and welcome to Advice For Vegans! When I first became vegan, I received a lot of help from a wonderful mentor and in turn, I decided I wanted to give back to the vegan community. I wanted to find a way to help those of you who are just starting out or hoping to transition. As such, this blog is open to absolutely anyone whether you're an omnivore, vegetarian, pescetarian or already a vegan. Now and again, there are some horrible pictures and videos reblogged here. I tag those as 'graphic' if you would like to blacklist them but otherwise, please don't worry about unfollowing me. I won't be offended! I want it to be known that I take a very peaceful approach when responding to people whether they be genuine asks or hate mail. If this irritates you, you are also welcome to unfollow me. Lastly, it's important that you understand that I am not a trained dietitian, therapist, psychologist or veterinarian. I am simply a young vegan woman wanting to help out. Apart from that, please enjoy the blog and never be afraid to ask me anything or to even submit your own material. My ask box is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week though sometimes if personal issues arise, I can take a while to get back to you. Do not worry if this happens, I'll reach you eventually! Be sure to check through my FAQ as I do get a lot of the same questions!
Lots of love to you all, Mary
Kshamenk was captured from his ocean home 19th September 1992. His captors claimed they were rescuing him when in fact they had forced him to strand along with two other orcas. He was then taken to Mundo Marino in Argentina where he resides to this day. He has not seen his own species in over a decade and spends his days in total isolation displaying distress and frustration. Kshamenk is also an Argentinian orca. This means that rather than feed on fish, in the wild he will have fed on small mammals such as seals, penguins and even porpoises. But in his concrete prison cell, he only has access to the dead fish provided for him when he performs his daily circus shows.
Kshamenk is a perfect candidate for release as he was around 6 years old when he was caught meaning he will have had lots of experience hunting and learning the ways of the wild. He also has not bonded with humans at all and can not stand human interaction. He is aggressive, sexually frustrated and shows signs of depression and boredom day in day out. Please sign this petition so that I can send a copy over to the president of Argentina and together, we can get this poor boy home!
On the 8th July 2013 at 9pm EDT, there will be a tweetstorm for Kshamenk to raise awareness of his endless suffering. Just tweet #orcakshamenk on twitter and share his pitiful story.
